Overview

What can I make using TelAPI?

TelAPI offers developers an easy-to-use platform with a comprehensive set of telecommunication functionality which can seamlessly be incorporated into any type of application. TelAPI gives developers and innovators the freedom to build any voice and/or SMS enabled applications they can think of!

TelAPI has partnered with oDesk to help you find developers. Visit oDesk to find a knowledgable developer for your TelAPI project.

Can I see some examples?

Definitely! We've built SpoofCard, TrapCall and other apps on it ourselves. To see other live apps, contact us and we'll chat about the latest! To see the code for some example apps, go to our examples page.

Which languages does TelAPI support?

TelAPI supports any language that can receive HTTP requests and respond with XML! Check out our helper libraries for PHP, Python, Node.JS, Ruby, Java, and .NET. If you don't see your language, suggest one as we're always looking to expand our support. Drop us a line if you have a suggestion at help@telapi.com. Thanks!

What can't I build with TelAPI?

Emergency services, unsolicited marketing (SPAM!), and applications that serve to assist or perform activities deemed illegal are not allowed. For full details on acceptable uses of TelAPI, please check our Acceptable Use Policy.

Billing and Pricing


How am I charged while using TelAPI?

TelAPI has a very easy pricing system that demonstrates you exactly what you're paying for, whether it be for per-minute phone calls, per-inbound/outbound SMS or monthly rates associated with purchased phone numbers. If you have any questions regarding pricing, please let us know at help@telapi.com.

What can I do with TelAPI's free trial?

Upon signing up for TelAPI, you will be awarded a complimentary $2.00 credit. This will help you get started familiarizing yourself with the platform and building/testing your initial application. The free credits can be applied to all of TelAPI’s features, except international calling.

How can I upgrade from a trial account?

When you’re logged in, simply go to the billing page and add funds to your account. Once your account has been funded, you will have a full unrestricted account. To upgrade your TelAPI account, we accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express and PayPal.

How does TelAPI’s billing work?

While using TelAPI services (voice minutes, SMS, name and address lookups, etc.) we deduct from your pre-paid account balance. When your account balance hits $0.00, your account will be temporarily suspended until additional funds are added. We notify you by email when your balance gets down to $10.00, so you can plan accordingly.

When your balance falls below your chosen threshold you can manually recharge, or have us automatically recharge your account. TelAPI will also notify you when your balance reaches $0.00.

What happens if my TelAPI account balance reaches zero?

If your balance reaches $0.00 you will no longer be able to use any of TelAPI’s features or the phone numbers that you have purchased. However, you will NOT lose any phone numbers you've purchased right away. You'll want to head to our billing page and add funds to your account to reactivate your numbers and your TelAPI service.

In the case that you have not replenished your TelAPI account after 60 days, we may close your account and return your phone numbers to our database of available numbers. This means it is important to proactively take care of your account’s billing and avoid any disruption to your applications.

What if I want to cancel my account?

If you want to cancel your account simply stop funding it. Once your balance reaches zero we’ll automatically shut off your account.

Phone Numbers


Can I get a local TelAPI number in my area code?

TelAPI provides phone numbers in nearly every area code in the US and Canada, although there are a handful of regions where we don’t have numbers available, including Alaska and Hawaii.

Can I pick any phone number I want?

As long as it hasn’t already been taken, yes! Use our API or our API Explorer in your account Dashboard, to search our current inventory for specific phone numbers.

Can I get a toll-free number?

Yes! To purchase a toll-free number, go to the Buy Numbers and select “866” from the drop-down menu to the right of the country drop-down menu.

Does TelAPI provide international phone numbers?

Yes! We currently provide voice enabled international phone numbers which can be purchased at the Buy Numbers page.

Can I port an existing phone number to TelAPI?

We’re working to add the ability to port your existing numbers to TelAPI in the near future.
